How much it costs to move up a US visa appointment in Colombia

There is no official fee for moving up an appointment. The consulate does not charge you to reschedule: if you find an earlier slot yourself in the portal, you take it at no extra cost. What you pay for is someone finding that slot on your behalf.

That is where the pricing model matters, because they are not equivalent.

The three models you will find

Upfront payment. You pay a fixed sum when you sign up, whether or not they manage to move your appointment. This is how most full-service agencies work, and it makes sense when what you are buying is advice — profile review, help with the DS-160, interview preparation — because that work happens regardless of whether a slot opens up.

It becomes a problem when what you are buying is specifically the earlier date: you are paying for an outcome nobody guarantees.

Monthly subscription. You pay every month while the service keeps searching. If your appointment moves in the first month, you got a bargain. If it takes five, you paid five times. The provider's incentive is not aligned with your urgency.

Payment on results. You pay nothing upfront. You only pay if they actually secure an earlier date, and the amount depends on how many days they moved you forward. If they do not succeed, you pay nothing.

This is the only model where the provider carries the risk instead of you.

How payment on results is calculated

The maths is simple: a fixed amount per day moved forward, multiplied by the number of people in your group.

In the Colombian market that figure currently sits between 600 and 800 pesos per day. The gap looks small stated that way, but it compounds.

A typical case: your appointment is 14 months out and they move it to 4 months out. That is roughly 300 days.

600 per day800 per day

Family of three360,000*720,000

* With a reduced rate for each additional person. Without it, the full calculation applies to every member of the group.

The difference matters most if you travel as a family, because some providers charge the full rate per person while others apply a lower figure from the second traveller onwards. In a group of three, that can double the bill.

What to ask before hiring

Four questions that save you surprises:

  • Is anything paid upfront? If yes, and the service is purely about moving the date, you are the one carrying the risk.
  • How is each additional person charged? This is where the final price varies most.
  • What happens if they cannot move it? The answer should be: you pay nothing.
  • What happens to the appointment I already have? A serious service only confirms the new date once it has secured it. Your original appointment should never be left unprotected.

How much you save doing it yourself

All of it, in money. The portal is free and anyone can reschedule without an intermediary.

What it costs is time, and results. Slots released by cancellation stay available for minutes, appear at any hour — including the middle of the night — and the portal sends no notification when it happens. Checking three or four times a day, which is the most a working person manages, rarely coincides with the exact moment.

So the real question is not whether you can do it alone. It is what the difference between travelling in four months or in fourteen is worth to you.
